Sage Intacct R4 2026 guide for Irish businesses: new features, release dates and Ireland’s e-invoicing update, by DB Computer Solutions

Sage Intacct R4 2026: What’s New for Irish Businesses, Plus a Recap of R1, R2 and R3

/ News / By dbcomp_2025

The short answer

Sage Intacct 2026 Release 4 (R4) goes live on Friday 6 November 2026. It is the fourth and final quarterly update of the year, following R1 in February, R2 in May and R3 in August. Like every Sage Intacct release, it applies automatically: no installation, no upgrade project and no downtime to plan around.

For finance teams in Ireland, the headline changes in R4 are:

  • better tracking of activity between entities
  • employee expenses reimbursed through Accounts Payable or payroll
  • the ability to reverse fixed asset transfers and splits
  • further updates to GL account reconciliations
  • passkey login

Several early-access features also point to where Sage is heading next, including AP Automation that splits multi-page documents into separate transactions.

R4 does not add e-invoicing. But Ireland’s e-invoicing timetable, confirmed again by Revenue in October 2026, affects the same invoice-to-pay process as those AP features, so this guide covers both.

This guide covers what is in Sage Intacct R4 2026, which features apply to Irish businesses, how R4 builds on R1, R2 and R3, and what Ireland’s new e-invoicing rules mean for your finance team. It is written by DB Computer Solutions, a Sage Business Partner working exclusively in the Republic of Ireland since 1992.

Sage Intacct 2026 release dates

Sage Intacct releases four updates a year, one each quarter, usually mid-quarter in February, May, August and November. These were the 2026 dates:

Release Date Main themes
Sage Intacct 2026 R1 13 February 2026 GL account reconciliations, email security, REST API expansion
Sage Intacct 2026 R2 8 May 2026 Intelligent 3-way matching in AP Automation, billing groups, project and grant reporting
Sage Intacct 2026 R3 7 August 2026 Anomaly detection in AP Automation, bulk posting of AR invoices, Sage Collaborate
Sage Intacct 2026 R4 6 November 2026 Inter-entity tracking, expense reimbursement, fixed asset reversals, passkeys

What’s new in Sage Intacct R4 2026

R4 is a practical release: few headline features, many fixes to the parts of finance work that create manual effort. These are the changes Sage lists for all regions, grouped by area.

Area What changes in R4 Status
Multi-entity Inter-entity bill back and a new affiliate entity dimension, so activity between entities can be tracked and reported Generally available
Expenses Reimburse employee expenses through Accounts Payable or payroll; adjust reimbursements with AP bills; manage employee advances using expense types Generally available
Fixed Assets Reverse asset transfers, revert asset splits and reverse CIP capitalisations Generally available
General Ledger Updates to GL account reconciliations, introduced in R1 Generally available
Order Entry Post multiple draft transactions at once; combine several documents into one transaction; tiered and variable-quantity billing for billing groups Generally available
Cash Management Upload bank file payments to cloud storage; account numbers with letters and numbers Generally available
Security & admin Log in with passkeys; email sender allow lists; licence usage by user type Generally available
AP Automation Split multi-page documents into individual transactions Early access
Approvals Custom approvals for AR sales invoices and Order Entry transactions Early access
Consolidation A consolidation data table for faster processing Early access
Tax VAT allocations across transactions in Accounts Payable Early access

“Early access” means Sage’s Early Adopter programme: the feature is in final-stage testing, and customers can request to be included before general release.

For developers, Sage has also redesigned the Sage Intacct Developer Portal. Legacy XML API documentation moves there with the 2027 R1 release.

Which Sage Intacct R4 features apply in Ireland?

Everything in the table above is listed by Sage for all regions. That makes it the safe baseline for Irish businesses.

Some R4 features are restricted to named countries. Sage’s release notes don’t list Ireland as a separate region, so these need checking against your own Sage Intacct setup:

  • Finance Intelligence Agent (general availability): Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States
  • Smart Reporting for Excel (early access): Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States
  • Sage Intacct Construction updates, including the subcontractor payment application workflow and work in progress (WIP) changes: Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States
  • Sage Expense Management updates: Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States

If you run, or are evaluating, Sage Intacct for an Irish company, ask your Sage Business Partner which of these your entity can use before you plan around them.

Sage Intacct 2026 so far: R1, R2 and R3

Read as a year rather than four separate drops, 2026 follows a clear pattern. Each release takes the manual steps out of one part of the finance process, and R4 often finishes what an earlier release started.

Sage Intacct 2026 R1 (13 February). R1 introduced GL account reconciliations, strengthened email security and expanded the REST API. Sage also confirmed that all new objects and features will be released in the REST API from here on.

Sage Intacct 2026 R2 (8 May). R2 brought intelligent 3-way matching to AP Automation, available in all regions, matching invoices against purchase orders and receipts. It also added billing group improvements and better project and grant financial summaries. Sage introduced the AI Gateway in the same release, initially for the United States.

Sage Intacct 2026 R3 (7 August). R3 added AI-driven anomaly detection to AP Automation, available in all regions, to flag unusual or higher-risk transactions. Finance teams can now post multiple AR invoices and adjustments at once instead of one by one. Eligible companies can move from Intacct Collaborate to the new Sage Collaborate.

How R4 builds on them. The thread running through 2026 is steady automation, with no single big bang:

  • AP Automation gained 3-way matching in R2 and anomaly detection in R3, and in R4 begins splitting multi-page documents into separate transactions.
  • GL account reconciliations arrived in R1 and are refined again in R4.
  • Bulk posting came to AR invoices in R3 and extends to Order Entry draft transactions in R4.
  • Billing groups improved in R2 and gain tiered and variable-quantity billing in R4.

What happens after R4

Sage Intacct updates are automatic and need no action from customers. On 6 November, R4 simply appears in the system. Generally available features are ready to use straight away; some may need switching on in configuration, and early-access features need a request to join Sage’s Early Adopter programme.

The next release is Sage Intacct 2027 R1. Sage hasn’t published the date at the time of writing, but on the usual quarterly pattern it will land in February 2027. The one change already confirmed for it is the move of legacy developer documentation to the new Sage Intacct Developer Portal.

Paper invoice on a clipboard with an arrow pointing to an electronic invoice, illustrating the move to structured e-invoicing in Ireland from November 2028
From 1 November 2028, every business in Ireland must be able to receive a structured e-invoice. A scanned image or a PDF sent by email does not count as an e-invoice for in-scope supplies.

Does Sage Intacct R4 support Irish e-invoicing?

Sage’s R4 release notes do not list structured e-invoicing, Peppol connectivity or Revenue digital reporting for Ireland, so R4 should not be read as an Irish e-invoicing release.

What R4 does include sits in the same invoice-to-pay process that Ireland’s new rules will change. AP Automation that splits multi-page documents into separate transactions, and VAT allocations across transactions in Accounts Payable, are both listed as early access. They build on 3-way matching from R2 and anomaly detection from R3, both available in all regions. None of these is an e-invoicing feature, and because the VAT allocation update is early access, ask your Sage Business Partner whether it fits your Irish VAT set-up before you plan around it.

If Irish e-invoicing support matters to your business, ask your Sage Business Partner what Sage Intacct will support for your entity ahead of November 2028, and when.

What is Ireland’s e-invoicing timetable?

Ireland is introducing mandatory structured e-invoicing and real-time VAT reporting in three phases between 2028 and 2030. The Finance (No. 2) Bill 2026, published on 19 October 2026, proposes the legal framework, and Revenue’s 2026 implementation update confirmed that the timetable announced in October 2025 is unchanged. The Bill is still going through the Oireachtas, and Revenue’s draft regulations may change before they are finalised.

Phase Start date Who is affected What changes
Phase One 1 November 2028 VAT-registered large corporates managed by Revenue’s Large Corporates Division on 1 January 2027, estimated by Revenue at around 2,400 businesses Must issue structured e-invoices for taxable domestic supplies to Irish businesses and public bodies, and report selected invoice data to Revenue in real time
All businesses 1 November 2028 Every business in Ireland Must be able to receive structured e-invoices from Irish suppliers
Phase Two 1 November 2029 Irish-established VAT-registered businesses engaged in intra-EU trade, plus businesses managed by the Large Corporates Division on 1 January 2028 Issuing and reporting obligations extend to these businesses
Phase Three 1 July 2030 Cross-border EU B2B transactions EU VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) requirements apply

The issuing obligation starts with large corporates, but the receiving obligation lands on everyone. VAT rates, payment obligations, the calculation of VAT liability and the periodic VAT3 return stay as they are.

If you run a distribution or manufacturing business, the Order Entry updates in R4, including posting multiple draft transactions at once and tiered billing for billing groups, are the ones most likely to affect your day-to-day work. To see how Sage Intacct handles stock, work orders, production planning and quality control alongside your finance function, read about Distribution and Manufacturing Operations for Sage Intacct on our Sage Intacct microsite, where you can also download guides and request pricing.

What counts as an e-invoice in Ireland?

An e-invoice is a structured, machine-readable file that complies with the European standard EN 16931-1. Scanned images, Word documents and PDFs sent by email do not qualify for in-scope supplies from November 2028. Revenue’s guidance for software providers adds that e-invoices must meet EN 16931-1, be sent securely via the Peppol network or an agreed supplier and recipient network, and be reported to Revenue through Peppol where reporting applies. Revenue has not yet published the detailed technical specifications, and has confirmed that testing environments will be available before November 2028. revenuefiscal-requirements

The practical consequence for you: your accounts payable process will need a way to receive a structured file, not only a PDF in an inbox.

What should Irish finance teams do about e-invoicing now?

It depends on where your business sits in the timetable.

If you only need to receive e-invoices from November 2028, Revenue’s advice is that no action is needed at this time, with further guidance to follow on its eInvoicing Hub. charteredaccountants

If you are a large corporate in Phase One, or you supply VAT-registered customers in other EU countries and may fall into Phase Two, start reviewing your invoice processes, data quality, customer and supplier identifiers, ERP integration and service provider readiness. Revenue advises against locking down final system builds before the technical specifications are published.

For every business, the useful step now is to find out how invoices reach your accounts payable team today, and what your finance system will need in order to receive a structured file.

This section summarises Revenue’s published position at the time of writing and is not tax advice. Check Revenue’s eInvoicing Hub for the latest.

Sage Intacct in Ireland, with an Irish partner

A quarterly release only helps if your system is set up to use it. That depends less on the software than on how it was scoped and configured for your business in the first place.

DB Computer Solutions has supported Irish businesses with Sage since 1992, working exclusively in the Republic of Ireland from offices in Limerick, Cork and Dublin. Irish VAT, Revenue and ROS compliance, and the reporting needs of Irish multi-entity groups are the context we work in every day, not something adapted from a UK or US template.

What a readiness review looks like

A Sage Intacct readiness review with DB Computer Solutions takes 30 minutes. We look at your current setup, the processes costing your finance team the most time, and whether Sage Intacct is the right fit for where your business is heading. No presentation. No sales script. A practical conversation with a team that has been doing this in Ireland for over three decades.
